WELCOME TO HUNGARY
I am proud that UEFA has chosen Budapest to hold the most important event in the women’s club football calendar, the UEFA Women’s Champions League final. It is a fantastic honour that Ferencváros Stadium will stage the first women’s final to take place independently of the men’s final.
In recent years, UEFA has put in a tremendous amount of work to develop grassroots football and the women’s game. Europe has truly become the epicentre of women’s football, with women across the continent taking up the game. Indeed, in many cases the quality of play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League is now on a par with the men’s competition.
We too have put in a lot of effort. We are proud that the number of women playing the game in Hungary has increased dramatically, and that our youth teams are now regular participants in the elite rounds of UEFA tournaments. It is perhaps due to the steady development of women’s football in Hungary that UEFA chose to select Budapest as the host city for this final, and we believe that today’s match will provide a further boost to our pursuit of continued success.
I hope that everyone enjoys a fantastic spectacle and an unforgettable football experience!
